Migration: 

Migration - A journey by an animal to a new habitat.

Hemisphere - One of the halfs of the earth created by an imaginary division along the equator. 

3 ways to migrate

•use the sun to help migrate/GPS the way

•use their iron in there beaks

•use the stars

Playing Dead - They prey acts as if they are dead, which can shut off the hunting behavior in the predator.

Making an Escape: They prey makes a sudden dash for safety; this relies on the fact that the prey is fast and has sharp senses.

Animal defenses: 

Predator - An animal that kills and eats other animals.

Prey - An animal that is killed and eaten by other animals. 

Some types of animal defenses

Mechanical - spikes & thorns (rhinos & scorpions)

Chemical - poisons & acids (cuttle fish & scorpions)

Visual - bright colors, shape & camoflauge (cuttle fish)

Electrical - pulses (eels)

Behavioral - running away (mice)

A DEFENSE IS THE WAY THAT AN ANIMAL OR PLANT PROTECTS ITSELF. AN ADAPTION IS A CHANGE THAT AN ANIMAL OR PLANT MAKES TO BETTER SUIT THE ENVIROMENT THE IT LIVES IN.

GENOTYPIC & PHENOTYPIC ADAPTIONS

Genotypic adaptations are traits passed down through the genes from generation to generation. The traits that succeed over time favor the enviroment that animals live in. Phenotypic adaptions are the visible expressions of the genotypes.

Spines & Scales - The prey is covered with spines or scales that make it diffucult for the predator hard to eat it. 

Camoflauge - They prey disguised itself as something else, such as a leaf or twig, so that the predator cannot find him.

 

Feeding and Partnership: 

Carnivore - An animal with specialy shaped teeth that feed only on meat. 

Herbivore - An animal that eats only plant food. 

Omnivore - An animal that eats both plants and meat food.

Symbosis - A close ecological relationship between at least two diffferent species. 

Mimicry - They prey mimics another more dangerous animal so that the predator will leave it alone. 

Chemical Weapons - The prey emites a poisonous or foul-smelling cemical to keep predators from eating it.
